TURNER GALLERY MARGATE & PUGIN’S CHURCH & HOUSE RAMSGATE ~ 9 MAY 2012

This trip provides an opportunity to visit the new Turner Contemporary Gallery in Margate and see the magnificent Gothic style buildings by Augustus Pugin in Ramsgate.

The new Turner Contemporary Gallery, designed by David Chipperfield, is situated by the beach in Margate.  The gallery’s first major highly acclaimed exhibition, Turner and the Elements, shows 88 works of the artist.  Tea/coffee and biscuits
will be provided in a private room.

We then drive to Ramsgate where there are many restaurants around the marina
area where lunch can be purchased.  We will then proceed to The Grange where
we will have a guided tour of the family home built by Augustus Pugin, richly decorated with wallpapers, tiles, fabrics and furniture all to Pugin's own designs.  The visit also includes a guided tour of St Augustine’s Abbey Church, also designed by Pugin, and built next door to The Grange.  We plan to depart Ramsgate at approximately 4 pm arriving back in Beckenham around 6 pm.

Tickets:  On sale before lectures and cost £29 which includes the coach, tea/coffee and biscuits at the Turner Contemporary Gallery (entry is free) and the guided tours of The Grange and St Augustine’s Abbey Church.
